For
those in pre-K through third grade, each children's liturgist
uses a Liturgy Plan containing readings and suggestions for
activities and teachings to follow the Sunday homily. Our
goal is to share the readings of the day with the children in
our congregation and help them to better understand them.
We read the same readings that are read in church, but they are
from the Children's Lectionary and are written at the children's
level.
After
the readings, we talk about what was said and then we try to
help them understand what the readings mean. We sing
songs, take time to talk with children about anything they may
need to talk about or questions they may have. We
pray the creed and the prayers of the faithful, directed to
things the children know and care about. They then have an
opportunity to share their needs and concerns and to ask God's
help. We quietly return to the body of the church to
participate in the rest of the Mass with the congregation
